Ship Halted In the Wake of Death of Woman Left Behind on Tropical Isle

One 60-day cruise through the Land Down Under is being halted following the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned later that day after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

A major hunt found her body the following day.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that guests and staff on the ship were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" preventing any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The ship initially left the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her family was "stunned and grieved that the liner left the island after an planned excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.
